It’s been months since my Achilles and calf last flared up. A few months of biking, light cardio, and stretching are in the rear view, and I started running again a couple of weeks ago.
It’s been mostly baby steps. I started with a half mile, upping the distance by a half mile each week. I’m still only running one or two days each week, but so far, so good.
It’s been frustrating, stopping before I really get a sweat going. At the end of each run, I’m always wanting more, and I’m always wanting to go faster, but I also don’t want to be on the shelf anymore, either. So it’s low miles at a conservative pace (9:30) for now. I move up to 2.5 miles later today.
Getting older sucks. Time seems to take things away, one by one. The good news is that those things that remain are the ones that really matter. Here’s hoping that running isn’t on the takeaway list – not just yet!
